Autonomous Systems

On the battlefields of the future, armed forces will rely on remote-controlled "systems of systems" that harness the power of robotics and automation.

The weapons of tomorrow will operate with new, energy-efficient systems, and security and stealth will be enhanced by advanced materials.  Crew cockpits will be networked for ultimate situational understanding, and for operation and control of autonomous systems. BAE Systems is already forging the concepts for these future systems, doing its part to make the digital battlefield of the future a reality.

We have successfully developed communication systems for autonomous Uninhabited Air Vehicles (UAVs) based on Commercial-Off-The-Shelf components. Our innovative solutions meet stringent technical requirements for covert, robust, high bandwidth datalinks able to handle multiple UAVs – achieved using cost effective, readily available components.

Providing telemetry, control and video transmission, our systems also incorporate a Flight Termination System, ensuring the safe and controlled return to earth of the UAV under adverse conditions.

Our autonomous capabilities are not only weapon-based; the Wildcat is an autonomous off-road vehicle, developed by the Advanced Technology Centre.
